The Detroit People Mover is getting a little greener.

The Detroit Free Press reports the downtown elevated light rail system has installed a "green roof" atop its station at Joe Louis Arena.

A thin layer of ground-hugging plants is designed to help channel rainwater to drains and provide insulation.

The new roof has an expected lifespan of 40 years and is expected to reduce repair costs.
