Jeff Newberry, a retired police officer and 9th-degree black belt in Taekwondo, has outlined a few self-defense tips if you are held at gunpoint:
First, time is on your side, he says. Stall the gunman by talking and trying to negotiate.
Second, remember to breathe, even though it may be tough to remain calm.
Third, don't move your feet, push the attacker, or reach for the weapon.
Newberry emphasizes you should only grab the gun if you are within arm's reach.
Fourth, grip the gun, not the hand. Don't point the weapon at the gunman.
