Nov 5, 2009 - Take Charge Thursday: Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing program (HPRP) The HPRP has been running in our area for a little over a month now. The Center for the Homeless says they've been swamped with calls about the program, which is funded by federal stimulus dollars. These are the contacts for people interested in the program, which is geared toward anyone who is already homeless, or at risk of losing their home. To qualify you must be at 50% of the area median income, which officials say is much more lenient than many other assistance programs. The program can cover rent and utilities, but not a mortgage payment. In St. Joseph County, people who are already homeless can call the Center for the Homeless at (574) 282-8700. People who are at risk of losing their home can call the Madison Center at (574) 234-0061 People in Elkhart, Marshall, Fulton, and Kosciusko Counties can call (574) 523-3750. |
