Gary Mayor Rudy Clay says Joe Jackson will attend the memorial service for his son when Michael Jackson's hometown honors the pop icon.
Clay said Thursday that the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson also will be at the event Friday evening at The Steel Yard baseball park in downtown Gary, a couple miles from Jackson's boyhood home. The event comes three days after a Los Angles memorial watched nationwide on television.
Clay says the memorial will serve as a tribute to the Jackson family's contributions to the music industry.
Among those scheduled to take part are Gary natives Deniece Williams, best known for her pop hit "Let's Hear It For the Boy," and former NFL star and actor Fred "the Hammer" Williamson.
