One primary race many in St. Joseph County are still talking about Wednesday is the District 2 County Commissioner's race.

Democratic incumbent Steve Ross lost by a clear margin, as challenger Dave Thomas beat him by almost a thousand votes.

Thomas is looking forward to November and continuing what's been a busy campaign season.

"Where there were people, we were there, and getting the message out. And once voters and citizens were informed, of how things were going on, they said hey we've got to do something about this," said Thomas.

Newscenter 16 spoke with County Commissioner Steve Ross Tuesday about the primary results. He said, "The voters give you the job and the voters take the job away. It's like getting hired and fired by your employer. That's all I can say right now."

Not having the Democratic party endorsement only demonstrates that the goal was to get the "good old boys" back in place so things can run as usual. We're right back to "status quo" and same old, same old. No change for St. Joe county. Ross made waves and asked the tough questions and maybe challenged "dead wood".

Take off, eh?

Glad to see you go Steve! Although, I will miss somebody who complains about everything and does not provide any solutions. It is usually very sad when an incumbent cannot even get his own party to endorse him.

I have to agree with Bret. Finally had someone in the office who was not afraid of not going along with what he was told would be good for him and they were able to get their buds to vote him out. Ross did not get the county into the mess it is in now - it was a long time coming. Ross just wanted to make sure commissioners were actually doing their job and were informed as to what the county depts were supposed to be doing was done. No one on top makes friends when they have the people under them make sure they are working and are accoutable.

Step on a few toes...you better wear steel toed boots around that guy, he will stomp on them. The voters clearly spoke. He did not have a good year and this is what he gets for it. The county is in very poor shape right now, thank you. Some of the worst budget cuts in recent history. Dream on Bret. Rose colored glasses are no longer in.

Wait till you see Dave Thomas. You'd beg for Ross back. Dave Thomas has been accused many times over the years of stealing opponents' signs in the Tribune.

Do not post multiple comments with different names in the same story. Thank you. -WNDU.com

Yes, thank goodness Steve Ross is out of the Comissioners Office. Why would we want someone who is not afraid to step on a few toes and works to help the county employees. Everybody wants a "change" and then when they get it they decide to vote back in the same old types as have always been in our county politics. Thanks for trying to shake things up Mr. Ross, but at least we can sleep easy now that St Joseph County is back in the hands of the same people who have succeeded in getting us into the mess we are in.
