The University of Notre Dame will host a conference later this month looking at how Haiti's Catholic school system could strengthen the quake-damaged nation's social and economic development.

Church leaders, educators, corporate executives and development
policymakers will take part in the June 19-20 conference in South
Bend.

Notre Dame's Institute for Educational Initiatives director, the Rev. Timothy Scully, believes Catholic schools will serve as a model for national education reform and can drive the renewal of Haitian society as the impoverished nation tries to recover from a devastating 2010 earthquake.

Among the proposals under consideration will be teacher training
programs, efforts to develop sustainable revenues for the Haitian Catholic school system and new governance systems for schools and parishes.
