We'll have to wait until next week to learn the names of the finalists selected in the search for a new, permanent leader of South Bend Schools.
Roger Parent, President of the South Bend Community School Corporation, told NewsCenter 16 Thursday that the names of those selected for superintendent interviews will not be released until next week.
He says the board is waiting until the finalists have had a chance to inform their respective boards, and thorough background checks have been completed. That should be done by the middle of next week.
The board has been working to find a replacement since April’s retirement announcement by then-superintendent Jim Kapsa.
The board is getting help and input from both a national search firm and a citizen's advisory board.
Carole Schmidt has taken over as interim superintendent for the time being.
