A senior at Northwestern High School in Kokomo is this year's Indiana Mr. Science and one at Carmel is the state's Mr. Math.

Governor Mitch Daniels' office says Mr. Science John Tyler Barnes was named Indiana's Top Young Scientist at the state science and engineering fair He will attend Indiana University as a Wells Scholar.

Like Barnes, Mr. Math Youkow Homma is National Merit Scholarship finalist. Homma also is a National AP Scholar and a Presidential Scholar candidate. He will attend Yale University in the fall.

Daniels presented the students with the awards Thursday at their
schools. The two were selected from among more than 200 candidates by a panel of high school mathematics and science teachers, university faculty, Indiana Department of Education staff and math and science professionals.
