The chancellor at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne is going to advise the Army on educational matters.

The university has announced that Michael Wartell has been named chairman of the Army Education Advisory Committee. In that role he will advises the secretary of the Army and other senior Army leaders on learning, training and other educational matters.

Wartell is facing retirement because of Purdue's mandatory retirement age of 65. He turned 65 in November. Purdue is looking for a new chancellor for the 14,000-student campus.

The IPFW Faculty Senate last year voted to ask trustees to grant
Wartell a waiver from the mandatory retirement age. Two bills prohibiting age limits in employment at state universities have been filed in the Legislature.
