I have a question. Is the whooping cough vaccination given in a series, as in MMR? The child in question has been vaccinated, and I read in the article that the antibodies can wear off by age 12. How long is the treatment for Whooping cough. A member of my family, in the 1930s, got it and has told me it is treatable and that HF did the right thing. I hope the child recovers and that if anyone who needs the vaccine(booster) gets it. I know this sounds strange(I really do not know) but do adults get it also?

You people should be ashamed of yourselves! First of all, the child is up to date on his/her vaccinations. The students at Holy Family have to have a form from their Dr. stating that in order to go to school there. This child comes from hard working parents that want a good education for their child just like the rest of us. No the child is not a "voucher" student and the childs education is paid out of the parents pocket. Before you go jumping to conclusions and pointing fingers you should do your homework!

Do you people not understand that to attend any school in this area you have to have your child vacinated, did you miss the part of the article that said they the medical professionals are finding that there needs to be a booster shot. Saying this child got sick because of the use of vouchers now has to be the most riduculous thing I have ever heard.

Everybody knows everything, but nobody knows anything. You don't have the facts, but you sure can talk. Who said the kids were not vacinated, have you seen their records!! Voucher: you have the same color of blood, same germs as the voucher children.MONEY or less money does not make the illness. Grow up People!

The child in question has been fully vaccinated and is not a "voucher" student.

I'm sorry, but with an advocate like Katie Van Tornhout as a perishioner there and all she has done to try and make sure this does not happen, it is a shame that it has to happen at all. Let alone her own parish. People PLEASE get you children vacinated and keep up on them. NO ONE should have to go through this with their children when it can be prevented!!!!

Probably a result from the vouchers.

I hope the illness isnt spread to other.children at holy family. Its a.nasty.disease and can be very scary. Kids of.this age have a better chance of beating it bc of prior vaccinations. Hopefully this child wasnt around any infants...as they cant fight it bc they arent vaccinated under two months of age.
