Covenant Christian School in South Bend received a 2009-2010 Four Star School Award on Thursday.
The award is given to schools that make progress from year to year and place in the top 25 in state ISSTEP scores.
"We had 100 percent pass rate third through eighth grade in math and then a 96 percent pass rate third through eighth grade for English language arts," said Principal Barb Hesselink. "We've only been doing this for a couple of years so it's exciting to be able to validate that we're doing a good job."
Out of 261 private schools in Indiana, only 13 have been given the Four Star School Award.
"I think it confirms to my teachers that they're doing the job they're supposed to do and our partnership with parents is paying off," said Principal Hesselink. "It makes me proud because I think we're doing the right stuff educationally."
