PHM superintendent says the school district is strong

According to district superintendent Dr. Jerry Thacker, the state of the Penn Harris Madison school district is strong.

Thacker gave his annual “State of the Corporation” address this morning.

Thacker says despite financial challenges that have plagued most districts in Indiana, PHM is one of the top performing school districts in the state.

He says they have had exceptional parent and community support and that the teachers are the key to their success.

"We have to make sure that we have outstanding achievement and recruit hard. And then when we get our employees in place, make sure that we invest in them and invest in professional development so that they continue to improve throughout their careers," says Thacker.

One of those teachers got a special honor. Cindy Batalis teaches physical education classes at Horizon Elementary School, and she was named teacher of the year.
