This week the Benton Harbor School Board voted to move forward with its efforts to make the district a Promise Zone.

The program allows graduates to get a two-year state-sponsored scholarship at a community college.

But before the district can get tax dollars from the state, they must first raise some money on their own.

A committee is going to be put together to get the ball rolling in the district.

Benton Harbor was one of ten school districts to be approved for the Promise Zone program this year.
