ISTEP testing continues in Indiana

Indiana students are getting ready for their third round of ISTEP testing this school year, as the standardized tests start up again this morning.

Hoosier students also took the exam last fall because Indiana is in the middle of transitioning from fall to spring testing, and the spring testing is separated into two phases.

This week marks the second half of the spring test.

The first part of the spring test was back in March with an essay exam. This week's test is a multiple choice exam.

Students in all grades will be tested on English and math.

Students in fourth and sixth grades will also have science, and fifth and seventh-graders will also have social studies.

If your child is taking the ISTEP this week, there are some things you can do to help them get ready.

  • Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep. They'll be more focused on the test and will have an extra boost of energy to make it through the day.
  • Likewise, make sure they have a good breakfast, with lots of protein in it.
  • The ISTEP tests come with breaks built into them, so make sure your child uses them, even if they just stand up and stretch.
  • Finally, tell your child to go back and double-check their work on their test to catch any mistakes.

This round of ISTEP testing continues until May 6.

If you’re a parent and have questions about the test, you can talk to teachers and counselors at your child's school about any concerns.

You can also take a look at Indiana’s ISTEP website, or call 1-888-54-ISTEP.
