A Michigan City teacher accused of calling a student's father a terrorist, and accused by the family of shooting at their home, will not be a Michigan City teacher for long.

The school board voted tonight to cancel John Scheimann's contract at the end of the school year.

Sheimann’s name wasn't even mentioned, as his termination was among a group of personnel changes that were approved in a single vote.

While his alliance with the school as a teacher may be over, he's still got a battle to fight along side Michigan City Schools.

A lawsuit was filed against the school and Scheimann last month by a former student and her father, Hussein Mroueh.

The claim states that during class two years ago, Scheimann had called the student’s father a terrorist.

The board says this alleged incident is just one in a line that led the high school social studies teacher to the chopping block tonight.

“Over the years there have been incidents that have brought concern. Within the classroom there were some comments made and some things that occurred that were what we felt not in the best keeping with what we want in the classroom of the Michigan City Schools, and we felt it necessary for us to take this action,” says Clyde Zeek who sits on the Michigan City school board of trustees.

After Hussein Mroueh filed the claim his house and also the high school principal's house were shot at. In the police report, Mroueh says Scheimann may have been the shooter; but police do not have any information connecting Scheimann to the shootings.

Scheimann has been suspended from his teaching duties for the past few weeks for recent inappropriate behavior in the classroom. He will remain suspended until the end of the school year.
