With open enrollment, in a few short years the private schools will have the same challenges as the public schools. The reason being...parent involvement or lack thereof. It does not matter where you send your kid if you're not paying attention to what is happening. SBCSC has set thousands of kids to top colleges and universities like Notre Dame, Harvard, U of Chicago, Stanford, etc. Those kids had parents who were paying attention.

Lets see how this works. You pay taxes, and you use them to get the best education available for your children, with the bonus of discipline, and the student learns how to act in public. What's not to like.

2mil divided by 373= 5361 PER STUDENT! you can go to a pretty good private school for $5300/yr! WAY better than SBCSC. Now ask yourself why we taxpayers are paying an average of 12-14THOUSAND bucks/year, per student to educate our community's children in the failing public schools. 2 words: union greed. I bet if parents could use their own money BEFORE it is taxed away from them, they would choose the better school in the first place eliminating the bureaucrat laundering the money back to the parent and telling them how it must be spent.

This just reinforces that parents are frustrated with the lack of education in our public schools. This number is only the count for this year. I pulled my kids 3 years ago and have NEVER looked back. My daughter attended Kennedy Academy and I thought she was getting a good education. When she got to St. Jude, she was even behind them. I will not sacrifice my childrens education for money. Money can not replace what our children are taught and how they use it in the future.

Your tax dollars at work. Hope you don't mind funding private education for whoever wants it.

Now the children that left the public school system to better their education by attending private school are now a new labled class of students. They are called "voucher kids"--- a term coined by catholic school parents, students and teachers here in South Bend :) Makes my daughter feel really warm and welcome.

Just goes to show you, when unions, and politicians get involved in education, parents do not want any of it. GO PRIVATE schools. More discipline, better teachers, and less gang activities...

Maybe if they go to private schools, they can learn the difference between 'then' and 'than' and when to use each.
