Ball State University's president is getting a 10 percent pay raise that is about four times the increase in the salary budget for other workers.
The $39,204 pay hike for President Jo Ann Gora will make base salary about $431,000 for this school year.
The Star Press reports the Ball State trustees approved Gora's increase during a meeting Friday, but didn't discuss it in public. University officials didn't provide documents that included her new salary until Monday.
Board President Hollis Hughes says Gora's raise is justified because the university has exceeded its $200 million capital campaign goal in trying economic times and she worked hard with state officials to lessen cuts in state funding.
Political science professor Joe Losco says departments have received 2.3 percent to distribute in pay raises.
