The South Bend School Board had a busy meeting Monday, but it was one that was not on the agenda that had some people fired up.
Several audience members complained about impending cuts to teachers and teacher's aides after further state-wide cuts to education.
Board members say they are not planning to make any decisions on staffing in the next few months and if people want them to maintain staffing levels they will need to vote on change at a more state level.
School Board member Roger Parent said, "We're not the ones who determine our budget. The state determines what our budget is. We take the money we get and we do the best we can. If people are not too happy about the amount of money we have, they're going to have to vote other people in office, other administrations."
Also during the meeting, the School Board approved a uniform policy for Edison Intermediate School.
The principal conducted a survey and 70-percent of parents are in favor of uniforms.
The school says a typical outfit costs about $100, which is less than the average amount spent on school clothes.
Uniforms go into effect for the 2011-2012 school year.
The School Board took some time during the meeting to recognize some local champions.
The Adams High School mock trial team was at Monday night’s meeting as the Board congratulated them on winning the national championship.
Their coaches attribute the win to the student's great effort and dedication, and the School Board says they could not be prouder.
