South Bend's newest charter school hired its first school leader Tuesday.

The South Bend Career Academy, an arm of Ball State, was approved back in December.

School officials announced that Notre Dame alumnus Yolanda Turner-Smith will serve as the first president of the academy.

SBCA is slated to open to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students in August with about 100 students per grade.
