Ivy Tech Community College named Dr. Thomas Coley as its new chancellor on Thursday.
Coley will take the position previously held by Virginia Calivin who retired on June 1.
Coley was the President of Scott Community College in East Iowa and has gained recognition for his focus on science and applied technologies.
He is also known for making Scott Community College a more viable option as a two-year school or the first step for those looking for a four year degree, something he hopes to do the same for Ivy Tech.
"Ivy Tech has been around for five years and I think there's some room to really educate people on the value of what a community college has to offer and that makes it exciting for being in a leadership role," said Coley.
Coley will oversee the Goshen, Warsaw and South Bend campuses and hopes to work with four-year schools near all three of the cities.
