The Benton Harbor High School is in danger of a state takeover if academic performance does not improve.

The state superintendent said, however, he does not think that will be necessary.

Our partners at the Herald Palladium report that Michigan State School Superintendent, Mike Flanagan, toured the Benton Harbor school this week.

He said despite the school being declared one of the lowest-performing in the state, based on talks with school officials, he expects the district to make a turn-around.

The takeover of the high school is unrelated to the state's threat to take over the district because of an $11.5 million budget deficit.
