The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against an Elkhart County school district on behalf of a mother who said they violated the constitution by teaching the Bible during school.
The suit was filed Tuesday in federal court against Fairfield Community Schools.
It alleges that a boy was left by himself in the hallway for 20 minutes a week during a Bible class at New Paris Elementary. His mother had opted to keep him out of the lesson.
The suit says the boy is being deprived of educational instruction during the class. The mother and her son were not named in the lawsuit.
