Carrie is a busy 7th grader at LaSalle Academy. Not only does she have excellent grades, but she’s involved in Track and Honor’s Choir at school. She is also involved in Little League Softball, the Twister Traveling Team, the Pilgrim Baptist Church Choir and Youth Group. -

Brody is a kind-hearted person, always looking for ways to help others. He is a student who not only helps the challenged child in his class, but he also sits with him at lunch, and has even given up his recess time to stay in and play with him when others won’t. -

Joseph came highly recommended by his Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Utz. She says he lights up the room when walks in. He is very self-assured and creates a warm welcoming presence when you are with him. He is definitely a leader and role model in the classroom, at school and in the community. -

Nominated by her teacher, Mrs. Wilson, Deja has shown tremendous leadership growth in her choir class in the past year. -

Gwendolyn is a special 7th grader nominated by her Volleyball Coach, Melanie Fisher. Earlier this school year, Gwendolyn’s house caught on fire, destroying most of her family’s belongings. -
Do the Right Thing: Briteme McGee
Briteme and his two friends were headed home from swim practice on Riverside Drive when they rounded a curve, hitting wet leaves. The GMC pick-up he was riding in jumped the curve and plowed down into the river. The truck was flipped upside down. -
Do the Right Thing: Abigail Parker
This Mishawaka 5th grader helped save the lives of her family. Earlier this year Abigail’s mother, Deborah was driving about 80 miles an hour near Peru, Indiana when she had a diabetic attack. Abigail jumped from the back seat to the front seat, reached over and slammed on the brakes with her hand, then called 911. -
Do the Right Thing: Ethan Richardson
Ethan is an ambitious, energetic 6-year-old. This summer he used his energy to run through eight acres of woods on his grandparent’s property. It was for good reason though; Ethan, his twin brother Isaac and their dad Eric were all on a hike in the woods at the edge of the property. -
Do the Right Thing: Isaac Richardson
Isaac is a big help to his mom in the house and to his dad in the garage. Recently he helped his dad out big time. Isaac and his twin bother Ethan went on a hike through the woods with their dad Eric. Eric ended up falling into a gopher hole and dislocated his knee. He couldn’t move and didn’t have a cell phone. -

On June 2nd, 2006, Holly was at home with her mother when her mother passed out and was unresponsive. Holly called 911, remaining calm, she told dispatchers what had happened. She is a great example of someone deserving of the Do the Right Thing Award. -
Do the Right Thing: Jake Hasbrook
Jake Hasbrook's thoughtfulness and quick thinking saved a man's life, which makes him deserving of the Do the Right Thing Award. -
Do the Right Thing: Adam Auter
As a student, Adam currently has a 4.0 grade point average and is ranked 24th in his class of 704. His baseball Coach Sean Galiher nominated him for this award because of these traits, and for that he is a recipient of the Do the Right Thing Award. -
Do the Right Thing: Brent Bonek
On October 12th, 2006 Brent's younger brother Zack fell down the stairs at home. Brent was able to do the right thing when his brother needed medical attention. His courage and quick thinking make him a great recipient of this award. -
Do the Right Thing: Erin Cooke
On June 28th, 14-year-old Erin Cooke started her first babysitting job. While watching the children she smelled smoke and immediately took action. It was Erin's quick response and responsible behavior that saved her life and the life of two others, which is why she is deserving of the Do the Right Thing Award. -
Do the Right Thing: Jaime Grayson II
This past October, 11-year-old Jaime Grayson II was leaving school and found a gun in the parking lot of St. Adalbert's Church. Jaime choose to do the right thing and seek an adult's help, which is why he is a recipient of the Do the Right Thing Award. -
Do the Right Thing: Nathan Ohlson
Nathan Ohlson is a 5th grader at Northpoint Elementary School. One of his teachers, Mrs. Moroni, raves about his behavior and character because he is always looking out for others. His positive attitude is one that many of us can learn from and for that he is a winner of the Do the Right Thing Award. -
Do the Right Thing: Ashlee Rorie
This past summer, Ashlee and her brother went to visit a family friend for a few days. During their stay the woman watching them, Jen Owens, had an insulin attack. Ashlee's courage and quick thinking make her a perfect recipient of the Do the Right Thing Award. -
Do the Right Thing: Riley VanDeVoorde
Nominated by his former teacher Mrs. Montel-McGann, Riley consistently displays respect, responsibility, integrity and patience to all those who surround him. His positive attitude as wells as many other qualities qualifies him as a Do the Right Thing recipient. -
Do the Right Thing: Bailey Williams
On August 11th, 2006 Bailey and her family were swimming and grilling out in the backyard. As everyone was getting ready for dinner, Bailey noticed her 3-year-old cousin, Charles, drowning in the hot tub. With her swift reaction and courage, Bailey saved the life of another, which is why she is deserving of the Do the Right Thing Award. -

Among the latest recipients, are two Discovery School students who choose to do the right thing, together. -

That's why we sponsor a St. Joseph County Sheriff's Program called Do the Right Thing. Four times a year a group of young people is honored for doing the right thing in a variety of situations. One of the latest recipients is Clay High School Senior Natasha Caston.
