Some Penn high schoolers are hoping their robot is good enough to win them a trip to a competition in St. Louis.
Saturday afternoon, Penn robotics' team 135 hosted an open house so friends and family could see up close what the robot can do.
The robot, which is remote controlled, gets around on four wheels and is designed to fire rubber balls into a target.
Science teachers say the project includes hundreds of hours’ worth of building, planning and calculating by the students.
Jim Langfeldt, engineering design and robotics teacher at Penn High School said, “This is equal to a lot of the athletic teams we offer here at Penn High School. These kids put a lot of time and effort into this. Some of them plan their entire high school career to be around what they do on the robotics team. "
Team 135 will take their robot to Kokomo, Indianapolis and Purdue in the next two months to battle for their spot in the national competition.
