Number of people using drive-thrus is up

More people want fast food even faster, so they're they're using the drive-thru.

Research shows 12.4 billion trips were made to drive-thru windows last year, an increase of about two percent from the previous year.

Hamburger restaurants get 57 percent of all visits at drive-thrus. The window draws 40 percent of visitors at mexican restaurants and 38 percent at chicken restaurant chains.

Restaurant chains are making drive-thrus more attractive by adding landscaping, canopies and multiple lanes.

Researchers say drive-thru customers expect straightforward accurate and fast service.
