Local auto dealer debuts gas-efficient, tri-wheeled vehicle

High gas prices are already making Americans re-think a lot of where they go and what they do. Now, they may start re-thinking what they're driving.

A local car dealership has a new car it thinks will help fit the bill. A three-wheel auto-cycle called the Tri-Fun debuted at the New York Auto Show in March and can now be found at Jordan Ford in Mishawaka.

It's powered by a mini-van engine, gets 42 miles a gallon, and costs under 10,000 dollars.

"You know I think it's got a lot of applications, local landscapers, flower shops, caterers, people who want to get great gas mileage. It's a more functional unit and very cost effective,” says Bob Hayden, General Manager of Jordan Automotive group. “It's fun. I ride a motorcycle and it was very interesting to drive this. A lot of fun and remarkably powerful.”

The Tri-Fun mini-truck is the only style available right now, but there will soon be sedans.

WNDU’s Maureen McFadden test drove the vehicle this week, and you can see more of her ride this weekend on Newscenter 16 Saturday morning.
