Next time you fill up at the gas pump you could be getting burned in more ways than one, if you use your debit card.

Recently we've gotten a couple of emails from viewers, like Patrick Myers.

He used his debit card to buy some gasoline, but couldn't buy $4 worth of dog food afterward because the bank put a $75 hold on his card, when he bought gas.

The hold is only supposed to be temporary but some people are complaining that it's too long, given the high cost of gas.

“I didn't think it was right,” says Myers. “I thought a lot of other people, in a similar situation, where they might do what I did and not realize they were going to have a $75 hold. It could cause the more serious problems down the road than it would cause me.”

Each holding policy varies by bank and gas station.
