I loved this article. We get asked all of the time whether people should do the work themselves, hire a handyman, or hire a contractor. My biggest advice I could give, is that if you have never attempted a job yourself and think something could go wrong with your project, then hire someone. Between hiring a handyman or a contractor, I have more advice. If the job is above $500, I would highly recommmend hiring a professional. This is important because if something goes wrong, then you want whoever did your work to stand behind their work and fix whatever problems occur. I work for http://www.needcooling.com and my experience is that when something goes wrong, people call their handyman or contractor immediately for the fix.
