Medtronic to eliminate jobs, possibly some in Warsaw

Warsaw is known as the orthopedic capital of the world boasting names like Biomet, Zimmer and Medtronic.

But now, Medtronic says it plans to layoff up to 2,000 workers company-wide as sales of pacemakers and defibrillators continue to fall.

The Minneapolis-based medical device maker employs approximately 650 in Warsaw where it manufactures spinal implants. The company has not said how many Indiana workers will be impacted.

The announcement comes the same day the Indiana Chamber of Commerce names Medtronic one of the "Best Places to Work in Indiana."
