As you head into your weekend, there are some free events around Michiana that you and your family might want to check out.
Arts in Motion in Niles
First up is Arts in Motion in downtown Niles. If you like art Niles is the place to be Saturday.
More than 20 tons of sand have been brought in for the building of a motorcycle sand sculpture. The two crafting the work of art are from Chicago and Grand Rapids.
There will be more than two dozen other artists as well from pastel and watercolor to pottery and woodworking artists.
"We're gonna be working on this 6 foot by 8 foot tall sand sculpture all day tomorrow. It's just gonna be a celebration of the arts, so anybody that's slightly artistic is welcome to come out and have some fun,” sand sculptor Dan Rebholz said.
The event starts Saturday at 10 a.m. and goes all day.
Kids are invited too for amateur sand sculpting contests and other arts and crafts.
It's time for Summerfest in Mishawaka. Due to construction, the festival has been moved from Merrifield Park to Kamm Island. There will be vendors and kids activities throughout the day
Summerfest ends with a concert and fireworks, and admission is free all day.
