With summer approaching, area hospitals are in major need of blood.
On Friday, Notre Dame hosted a blood drive to help fill that need.
The South Bend Medical Foundation sponsored a drive at the Hammes Bookstore.
They say summer is a tough time to keep normal supplies of blood because of travel and vacations.
Those who donated received a shirt that said "I Bleed Blue."
Those donating on Friday said there's no reason to be nervous.
"As long as you're physically able to, don't be [nervous]. The end result can touch so many people's lives, and especially this time of year, the need is so high," explained Keith Kirkpatrick, director of retail operation at the Hammes Bookstore.
If you missed Friday's event but would like to donate, don't worry. There will be another blood drive on Tuesday at the South Bend Police Department.
