Some times you just feel like having a burger and fries - and these guys know what you mean. This is “5 Guys” - one of the new additions to University Park mall in Mishawaka. Co-owners Donald Doan and Chris Wolf wanted to bring something different to the area.
Donald says, “What makes it unique is that we offer fresh ground beef. 80/20 and we hand patty our beef in the morning and all our burgers are made to order.”
“5 Guys” has garnered a lot of praise from east coast magazines and publications and for the past 8 years been listed on the Zagat Survey - the holy grail of restaurants - just don't call them "In and Out Burger."
The menu is sparse - couple burgers some fries and a couple hot dogs but they say that's the point - less is definitely more. You can see that in the open kitchen which creates an assembly line of burger making. Wolf calls it “organized chaos.”
Giant bags of potatoes are cut into fries fresh everyday and fried in peanut oil. Cutting them is not as easy as it looks – it’s a total workout.
Prices for a burger run from about $4.50 to $6 dollars and they can be quite massive. The fries come in cup and the rest are given to you on a ripped paper bag.
You get a ton of food for about $7.70
“For us I think it's a great fit and we're really excited about the opportunity to bring this to Mishawaka.”
