Stand-Up for Jack

Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis is a devastating disease that affects thousands of children across the United States.

Jack Staner, a five-year-old from South Bend, Indiana, was diagnosed with the debilitating condition in July of 2007. Since that time, he has been in and out of Riley's Children's Hospital almost every week.

Jack is in constant pain and has a myriad of medications that he has to take to keep the swelling down and the pain at bay. This young boy also has to go through many hours of physical therapy every week to help fight to keep his joints mobile and reduce the painful effects of his sickness.

Jack’s physical state has kept him from school; so much so, he now has to be tutored at home. Because of his condition, his family has been bowled under with numerous medical bills.

Because of this, three head-lining comedians, along with the Cheer Guild of Riley's Children's Hospital, the Firefighter's Union and the Fraternal Order of Police are pulling together, with many other sponsors, both local and national, to help Jack's family and the Cheer Guild of Riley's Children's Hospital. Stand-Up for Jack, a comedy benefit will be held on December 21st, 2007 to help these two worthy causes.

The Cheer Guild is a group that gives new toys to the sick children of Riley's Children's Hospital. They provide a small symbol of hope with new toys, in many dying children’s lives.

Eighty percent of the money raised will go to benefit Jack's family and the rest of the proceeds will go directly to the Cheer Guild, as they have helped so many children, including Jack.

The presenters for the December 21st show include:

Sean Shank: A 13 year comedy veteran. Previously appearing on CBS Comedy Stand-Up Spotlight, HBO Comedy on the Road; he is a Def Jam Comedian, a winner at the Midwest Festival in 1995, 1996, 2001, 2003, and 2005, as well as a Midwest MDA Telethon Headliner.

Jacob Ray: This nationally touring headliner is also a Def Jam Comedian. He also has appeared on the hit radio show hosted by Bob and Tom, appeared in the Improvable Cause Comedy Tour, Children in the Corn Comedy Tour, and is an aspiring actor.

Ian Montgomery: A Master Magician and Illusionist, Montgomery is also an internationally selling blues recording artist. He has appeared on the Improvable Cause Comedy Tour, as well as the Children in the Corn Comedy Tour, along with being a Corporate Comedian.

A silent auction and raffle will be held before the show to help with the effort to support the Cheer Guild and Jack.
