Penn High School's Spell Bowl squad raced to their third consecutive invitational of the season on Monday night when they topped a six team field at the Lakeland High School Invitational in LaGrange.
The Kingsmen tallied a score of 87 out of a possible 90, finishing ahead of long time rival East Noble.
Here are the final standings:
1.) Penn 87
2.) East Noble 75
3.) Northwood 63
4.) Garrett 61
5.) Ft. Wayne Dwenger 52
6.) Lakeland 12
This was Penn's 59th consecutive championship.
Prior to the Lakeland meet, the Kingsmen had won championships at the East Noble and Winamac Invitationals.
Finishing with perfect varsity scores of 9 of 9 words for Penn were: Leah Hershberger, Nithin Varadharajan, Alex Cao, Austin Heckaman, Andy Wang, Jenny Huang and Christy Chang.
Turning in perfect junior varsity scores for the Kingsmen were: Laura Harmon, Nitin Arora, Uifei Hu, Neena KallooKulangara, Marija Lapkus, Maddy Anderson and Nisha Bhatt.
Next up for the Kingsmen spellers is the Penn Invitational at 6pm this coming Thursday, Sept. 30 in the Penn cafeteria, The public is cordially invited to attend. There is no admission charge.
