The case of the NCAA vs Indiana University basketball program comes down to this. Did Kelvin Sampson lie to the NCAA about the way he recruited players ? The NCAA claims he did and if they can prove it (and the NCAA usually can when it wants to) Sampson is likely done as the Hoosiers head coach.

It's the same problem he had at Oklahoma. The NCAA hit Sampson with sanctions after it was discovered that he had exceeded the limit for phone calls to recruits. This wasn't just a oversight in Norman, it was blatant.

Now it seems it happened in Bloomington. Even after being docked a boat load of salary, Sampson and his staff didn't learn their lesson. Athletic Director Rick Greenspan all but said as much in a hastily called press conference on Wednesday. Greenspan won't fool around and try to bluff the NCAA if he wants to stay in his current position.

As usual, there was the usual clamor for Bob Knight to return to Bloomington to restore IU hoops to the glory it enjoyed under him. But don't look for that to happen.

What do you think of the NCAA's investigation and what should happen to Sampson ? We'd really like to hear your comments.

Its really a bad day for the Hoosiers! Will Sampson replacement do as well as he did? Only time will tell. Did Bobby Knights replacement do as well as Bobby Knight? Guess not, for he too was replaced.
