JOEL: An Incredible Movie you MUST see. 6/30'08

Hey all...

Hope you all had a great weekend.  I saw a movie this weekend that could rank in the Top 5 best movies I've ever seen.  The film is called "Wall-E" and it's Disney/Pixar's latest cinematic genius.  The film is awesome.  It was released this past weekend in theaters and the reviews have been incredible to say the least with 5 stars from nearly every critic including folks from competing film studios (which rarely, if ever, happens). Plus, it's opening day was Disney/Pixar's highest grossing ever - proof it's a film not to miss.

"Wall-E" takes place 700 years into the future.  All the humans have left earth on a spaceship and the adorable Wall-E is the only robot left to clean up the mess humans left behind.  He, along with his pet cockroach (since they, like Cher, will be here forever), become very lonely when suddenly a spaceship appears and Wall-E meets his new friend "Eve" (which looks like an Apple Computer type machine).

"Wall-E" is a film that does something almost impossible with today's movie industry - it has very few words and dialog yet gets the point across in a heart warming, funny, and often sad way (I admit, I teared up a couple times as did most folks in the nearly full theater).  The animation in the movie is some of the best I have ever seen.  Many times I forgot it was all done by computers.  Most importantly, the film  gets its message across and does so clearly.  It shows how important the world is and how people must take care of it - all while showing the incredible power of a bond between friends.  Even the youngest audience members will take something from this movie as the adults laugh at jokes their kids won't get till later in life.

As in true Disney/Pixar fashion, there is a brief cartoon before this film actually starts that features a magician and his rabbit.  Take my word for it - it's one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time - almost worth the price of admission alone.  Hilarious.

Watch for "Wall-E" to be a for sure bet at the Academy Awards in March.  This is a film you want to see.

"wwwwaaalllll-eeeee"

Have a great week...

JS

I thought the movie was a bit agenda driven... reminded me of The Happening, only animated and less violent.

Posted by: AMY Thanks Joel for the insight on the movie my entire family loves Disney?Pixar films and this sounds great. I love hearing a revieww from an actual everyday person rather than the film critics!

I went to see it Saturday morning. You have to admit, the magician was asking for it! And, yet again, another reason why not to put machines in charge. Look at the Axiom.
