A big salute to two members of the WNDU news team. Maureen McFadden and Russ Hnatusko won a Emmy award Sunday night in Chicago. South Bend is in the Chicago region which makes it really tough to compete. You are up against stations in Chicago and Milwaukee that have much bigger staffs and much bigger budgets. But despite that, our two person crew won for Best Health/Medical series beating out four entries from Chicago and one from Milwaukee. "Rewiring the Brain" were great stories about a local artist who had contracted Parkinson’s disease. The shaking made it impossible for him to continue his passion, painting. A local neurosurgeon was able to operate on his brain and find the right "nerve" to stop the shaking. Once again he could paint. Our crew recently checked on him over 18 months after the surgery. He continues to do well and is still painting. We are very proud of Mo and Russ. They will continue to bring you well told stories about people in Michiana and hopefully our peers in the Chicago area will continue to recognize their excellence in storytelling.
