We all know that winter is coming.  In fact, it won't be long before we have snowflakes flying across Michiana, possibly even before the end of the month.  I will also be updating my Winter Forecast for 2009/2010 that I first told you about in early October.  At that time I forecasted the winter to be 1 to 2 degrees colder than normal with near normal snowfall of 77".  I may be tweaking things a bit the day before Thanksgiving as there are some interesting things going on in the weather world-wide.

However, this week is a time to start thinking about winter.  You may want to try and winterize your home to keep more of the cold air out, and you may need to start "thinking" winter for safety purposes.  Winter can be dangerous to you in many ways, including extreme cold and obviously snow and ice.  This week is Winter Weather Awareness Week in Indiana.  The National Weather Service will hone in on different aspects of winter each day this week:

Monday:  Exposure to cold and wind chill

Tuesday:  Travel safety

Wednesday:  Outdoor safety

Thursday:  Emergency kits

Friday:  Safety for schools

Saturday:  A recap of the week

You can find all of this information daily on the National Weather Service site in North Webster.  Here is the link:

It would be greatly appreciated if you start including La Porte in your primary weather warnings and alerts. Chicago is too far away for it to be accurate for those of us in La Porte county and South Bend very rarely gives us a warning. Thank you
