As Seen on TV: Style Snaps

Would you like to be able to wear those expensive new jeans with either high heels or flats? Do you need something to keep that belt flap from flopping around?

The answer could be a "snap" with the Style Snaps.

The Style Snaps claim to easily adjust your hemline, but would it snap in our As Seen On TV test?

When you buy the Style Snaps, you get 16 in each box. They have adhesive on either side that can stick to just about any material and they snap together.

The Style Snaps come in handy if you want to wear a pair of jeans with flats that you usually wear with high heels.

The first you have to do is turn the jeans inside out. If you want to raise the hemline a couple of inches, you put the Style Snaps along the hemline about two inches apart.

Snap along the hemline. So, let's peel that off and then you keep them about two inches apart. Then you press them down and flip the jeans over to do the same thing to the other side.

Once you have your Style Snaps in place and you want to go for a lower heel, you just snap them into place.

So, you have your Style Snaps in place and you want to go for a higher heel, you just snap them into place. That will give you the adjusted hem.

That's not the only use; a Style Snap can also be put on the back of a belt flap to help it stay in place. If you want to undo it, you can unsnap it and then snap it right back into place.

So what happens if you want to wash your jeans? You cannot wash them with the Style Snaps still on. So, you have to undo them and take them off. Sometimes, the adhesive sticks to the jeans instead of the Style Snaps when you try to pull them off. Denim fibers can also stick to the adhesive. The manufacturer says you can take a little dish soap, wash the denim off, and they will be good for another ten times.

We asked one of our female producers, who changes heel height often, to find out what the Style Snaps would be like to use on a regular basis.

After a couple weeks, producer Erin McGinn said, "They were okay. I tried to use them as much as I could. I found that for holding up pants they weren't that good, especially after you used them a couple of times. You're supposed to be able to wash them and use them up to ten times, but I found by the third time, I actually had them fall off."

Erin also said, "But for all the secondary applications, for the big belts that are in style right now, to hold the end of it down, it was useful. For holding the collars down on top of the sweater, so they're not moving around, they also were useful."

So the Style Snaps will get a split verdict here. The practical use of them with the jeans and adjusting them to the heels turned out to be kind of a hassle, although Erin, our producer, loved them in other applications: holding down belts, making sure that shirts don't pop open and keeping collars down. So the Style Snaps didn't snap completely and they get a partial thumbs up.

You could always just buy a new box when you run out, as opposed to washing the ones every time you use them. You do get 16 in a box.

The Style Snaps run $10 at Bed, Bath and Beyond and are available in several stores and on the internet. You can visit the Style Snaps website by clicking here.
