As Seen on TV: Bottle Tops

Would you like fewer spills and more fizz from your can of pop? Why not turn that can into a bottle?

Bottle Tops claims to do just that, but would it survive our “As Seen on TV” test?

The Bottle Top works by fitting it over the top of about any size can. Once it's on, you just pop the top off and drink out of the bottle.

If you have a bottle of pop or beer, or anything that comes in a can, you might knock it over, spilling it everywhere. That's where the Bottle Top comes in. According to the manufacturer, the Bottle Top prevents spills. When we tried it, the Bottle Top leaked a bit, but spilled nowhere near the amount a can spills on its own. So if you knock it over with the Bottle Top on, you're not going to have as big a mess as if you didn't have it on.

Use is simple - you just pop the top off, take a drink, and there’s no leakage when you take a sip.

The Bottle Top will work on a smaller pop can, but not on a longer, narrower beer can. So, while it will fit on most cans, it won't fit on all cans.

Once you’re done using the Bottle Top, you just pop it off and rinse it in a little bit of hot water and you're ready to go for your next drink.

Another claim of the Bottle Top is that it will keep the carbonation in the can longer. About 10 hours ago, I opened this can of root beer and put the Bottle Top on and I simultaneously opened another can of root beer and did not put a Bottle Top on it. I don't see a whole lot of difference and in a taste test, the can with the Bottle Top is only slightly less flat. It looks like the carbonation is about the same.

This would be a great device to have in the summer or late fall when you have the yellow jackets climb into your pop or your beer can. So, from a safety standpoint, this might not be a bad product to have if you go out on a picnic. But, I’m not going to say it's the tops but I will say it did work and we're going to give it the partial thumbs up.

You get 12 bottle tops in a package and they come in a variety of colors. They are $10 at Bed, Bath and Beyond. You can also find them on the internet – just click here.
