It's a "ruff" job clipping your dog's nails, but now you can bury the clippers and take your four-legged friend for a Peticure. You've probably seen it on TV, but will it be the cure for the common nail clipper?
If my old dog, Romeo, looks a bit nervous it's because I'm holding these: nail clippers. And if you have a dog or a cat, and you use these, you know what a hassle it can be to trim their nails because often times the nail will break or crack, or if you cut it too close, you'll get to the quick and that is just murder on a pet.
So, that's where the Peticure comes in. It looks like a Dremel on the end of it. There is a drum with little sand paper discs that go over the drum, and those are what are used to file down the dog or the cat's nails, and it does it in paper-thin increments.
There are several different sized holes depending on the size of your dog’s or cat's nails. There are also different speeds; you can go from two all the way up to ten, so you can adjust the speed.
The Peticure can be somewhat unnerving to your pet at first, which is why the manufacturer suggests you get them in a good spot. I put Romeo in his favorite chair. And the noise, I think, at first is a little unnerving so once they get used to that perhaps it's not as traumatic.
The instructions say you should do spend three to five seconds per nail and keep going back and forth in a rounding motion.
After using the Peticure, his nails were much shorter and there are no cracks. It's smooth, it's not rounded and he's still relatively calm from the experience.
It's a fantastic tool and my dog, while he didn't enjoy it, it was a completely different experience -- like night and day -- from when we used the clippers.
So, the Peticure gets the big "paws" up.
I bought the rechargeable "Elite" model that runs $50, plus $10 for shipping. There are also models that cost $30 and $60.
I've also seen similar devices in stores for about $20. All You See on TV, located in Southlake Mall in Merrillville, also carries the Peticure for $29.99.
