ASOTV: The Clapper Plus

Every industry seems to have a signature product.

The Model T launched America's car craze. The Beatles made Rock and Roll the music of generations. And Starbucks made coffee a guilty pleasure.

Today, we are talking about the product that launched the whole "As Seen on TV" craze, albeit, this is an updated version.

We are talking about the "Clapper."

Millions have been sold and the commercial of an old lady clapping in bed to shut off her TV and light is an iconic image.

Now, there is a next generation Clapper called the Clapper Plus. But would it get a round of applause in our “As Seen on TV" test?

Well, here it is, the Clapper Plus and like the original clapper, there is room for two devices to be plugged in. The difference with this one, according to the manufacturer, is you can control each device independently by the number of claps. And to demonstrate we are going to have two separate lamps plugged in to the clapper: one that will turn on with two claps and one that will turn on with three claps. And, then, you plug it in.

Let’s try our first lamp: clap one, twice (Terry claps twice, the lamp goes on). Clap off (Terry claps twice and the lamp goes off). Our second appliance, or our second lamp, three times (Terry claps three times and the lamp goes on, terry claps three times and the lamp goes off). It worked like a charm.

And unlike the old Clapper, the Clapper Plus actually has a remote control if you do not feel like clapping. So I can turn on the first appliance with the remote and turn it off. And I can turn off the second one the same way. It has two separate buttons on the remote control for two different appliances.

The great thing about the remote control is that you can use it as you're coming home at night to turn on lights before you actually walk in the door, like so (Terry turns on light from outside with remote). Here is another unique feature of the Clapper Plus: it has a setting that if you are not home and someone tries to get into your house, it will sense that and the lights will go on (Terry pounds on window and light turns on).

I was really impressed with the Clapper Plus and think it deserves a round of applause and the big thumbs up!

I paid about $13 for my Clapper Plus at Walgreen's. They are in a lot of stores and on the internet.

For next week’s As Seen on TV test, since it is Valentines Day, we thought we would bake up some sweets for the sweets.

You can show your sweetheart some big love with this product. It is called the Big Top Cookie.

They are cake sized cookies, some 25 times the size of normal cookies.

Looks like something the whole family might enjoy making some lazy afternoon.

But would the Big Top Cookie crumble in our As Seen on TV test? Find out next Monday, Just Before Six.
