The Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo caters to folks who like to have a good time and try the chance at lady luck.

But it also caters to the hungry crowd with a number of restaurants.

Tucked inside the casino is Copper Rock Steakhouse.

The place is named after a giant copper rock that greets guests at the entrance - one of the largest copper boulders in the world. This fine dining restaurant orders more than a million dollars worth of food a month, and it shows.

“We have our own butcher shop, we have our own bake shop, we do everything from scratch here in the restaurant everyday.” says Daniel Richardson, the vice-president of food and beverage at the casino.

Executive chef Barry Rhodes has worked in some of the finest restaurants all over the world, and takes pride in the food he prepares for guests,

This being a steakhouse, copper rock prides itself in the beef.

Richardson says “the two biggest things in here is the quality of our beef. We use only prime beef. We bring it in we wet age it half and we dry age it half which allows for exceptional taste.”

Yes, it's fine dining but if it's a steak you want - then a huge one you'll get.

Seafood is important here as well. From fresh crab cakes to a giant sea bass fillet to firecracker shrimp, giant king crab legs, or a plate of freshly shucked oysters, seafood fans can rejoice.

The baked potatoes are nearly football size; each one nearly 19 oz.

If you're a wine connoisseur, you're in luck. Copper Rock has more than 550 varieties on the menu and nearly 10,000 bottles available, some as much as $300 per glass. A private dining is also available for guests who chose not to eat in the main room or the intimate side room in front of the bar.

And of course, there’s dessert. Forget about that gym membership for the next few seconds. Indulge your sweet tooth in a stacked banana cream pie, a crispy fruit crème brule, a giant pineapple and carrot cake or the king of them all, a chocolate ganache fudge cake. It’s so big, it comes with its own butcher knife.

Richardson knows that his restaurant is there to provide a different feel for the gamblers looking to get lucky.

“Our role in the casino is as an amenity and we're here to bring them back. Not only do they come here for the gaming experience but they come here for the service, the food, the things that we do in the restaurants.”
