Every year, thousands of cancer patients have to forgo attending special events like proms and weddings because of their illness.

Now, one student-run-club at Saint Mary’s College plans to make up those memories for cancer patients and survivors.

The “Stand Up to Cancer” Club will host a cancer prom for anyone currently taking on cancer, survivors, and their caregivers. The dance runs 6 to 9 p.m. in Welsh Parlor of the Haggar College Center on Saturday, March 2.

This is the second year the club is putting on the prom. This year guests will enjoy a "Dont Stop Believin" theme.

Attendees can dance the night away to music provided by DJ3J and will be given flowers from Sweet Pickens Floral & Gifts. Light refreshments will also be served. Those who attend will receive a photo from the evening as a souvenir.

Before the festivities begin, guests can receive special pampering services. Salons associated with the Hello Gorgeous organization will offer free pampering for cancer patients and survivors, including makeup, nail, hair, and head scarves. Anyone interested in these services just has to go to the ground level of Haggar from 4 to 6 p.m. on the day of the dance.

The club is accepting donations of gently used dresses to supply to guests.

If you’re interested in attending the dance or donating a dress email “Stand Up to Cancer” Club president Devon Graham. Registration is required. Devon can be reached at dgraha01@saintmarys.edu.
