The New Year is bringing new hours, at least temporarily, to the Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend. The zoo is typically closed during this time of year, but opens for three Saturdays as art of its Winter Days event.
The zoo will open its gates from noon until 3 p.m. today. It will also open back up again on February 9 and March 9.
Anyone going to today’s event will see an extra treat. It’s the day the staff plans to introduce the public to its four new animals.
The zoo will also offer special activities during winter days including animal enrichment and crafts.
Admission is $5.00 per person, two and under are free. Some of the extra activities will run you a little more, but are still affordable. For example, the train ride costs anyone over 2-years-old $2.
Zoo directors expect around 1,700 people to attend Winter Days. On average, Potawatomi sees around 300 guests per day.
