Wednesday, October 24, is National Food Day, and one not-for-profit organization in South Bend is localizing.
Unity Gardens is hosting a Taste of Unity harvest celebration Wednesday that will celebrate local food by hosting local chefs, serving tapas and having a silent auction fundraiser. Around 40 companies in the area are donating to the cause.
The event will take place at the Jewish Federation (a unity garden is on site), and is meant to provide local chefs and community members the opportunity to interact, socialize and unite.
National Food Day exists to bring awareness of the importance of food justice and local food, no matter where.
Tickets are still available for $25, the event is open to the public. You can find more information at www.theunitygardens.blogspot.com
Last year, organizers say over 300 people attended the celebration, and they expect even more attendees this year.
