South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg says he is launching a new initiative to take care of vacant homes after residents expressed their frustrations at his first "Mayor's Night Out" earlier this month.
Mayor Buttigieg says he will announce a task force within a few days. The task force will be a combination of several different people with ideas on how to change the vacant home problem in South Bend.
The mayor says the issue of vacant homes is something that is bothersome to community members. "I knocked on a lot of doors last year and it's one of the bgigest things on people's minds, and it's on my mind too," he said.
Mayor Buttigieg will give his state of the city address on his 100th day of office. He said he's planning to "lay out early accomplishments of the administration" as well as plans for the future.
