A driver accused of leading police on a high speed chase last night is now in custody.
Police originally pulled the driver over after expecting the driver was behind the wheel drunk. As they neared the car, the driver sped off in the car.
After driving for several blocks, the driver crashed his car near the intersection of Colfax and 26th Street on South Bend’s east side.
The crash resulted in power to be knocked out for several blocks surrounding that area.
During the crash, the driver hit a power line, parked car, house, swing and several trees before breaking the axle of his car and taking to foot.
The name of the driver has not been released yet. No injuries were reported.
