Cancer Care Partners in Mishawaka is offering free head and neck cancer screenings.
The cancer center at 301 E. Day Rd. will hold the screenings from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 10 and from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11. Registration is encouraged. Spots are still available, but are filling up fast. To register call Krisiti Mohamed at (574) 204-7277.
The free screening will include a physical exam of the head and neck. Symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, hoarseness or change in voice may prompt additional screening. That would be performed at no cost.
About 40,000 people are diagnosed with head and neck cancer annually. It can occur in the mouth, throat, larynx, thyroid gland, salivary glands, swallowing passages and nasal passages.
Those who heavily use alcohol or tobacco are most at risk. Warning signs include hoarseness, throat and ear pain, mouth sores or a lump in the neck.
