Staying cool can empty your wallet if you do not know how to conserve energy.
REAL Services of St. Joseph County is trying to make things easier with their Energy Assistance Program.
The program is state funded and assists low-income households with electric and heating expenses during the winter and summer months.
Those applying for the program must meet certain criteria within the Federal Poverty Guidelines, and also set up an interview with the county office.
