Car lovers cruised into South Bend Saturday to honor a fallen officer and his K-9 partner.
It was a stroll down memory lane at the 4-h fairgrounds, as owners brought out cars from across the decades.
The third-annual Cruise-In Car Show was held in memory of Corporal James Zuba and his K-9, Ricky, who were killed in the line of duty in 2010.
Szuba was a big fan of classic cars. Now his son and fellow car lovers gather each year to keep his memory alive.
“We have a bunch of return people and they all care, and they want to show up and support it,” said Josh Szuba. “They think it’s a great cause. It’s a great thing to never forget, you keep them in the memory.”
Donations collected at the car show will go toward a scholarship fund set up in Szuba's name.
“He'd be pretty amazed,” Josh said when asked what his father would think of the event. “Especially for him, he'd just shake his head with a smirk on his face, amazed that people want to be involved.”
